Un violino PER TARTINI...

Together with Alberto Cassutti and Francesco Piasentini, his friends and colleagues from Padova (IT), Damien Sainmont took part of a project dedicated to the great violinist Guiseppe Tartini. The 3 luthiers wanted to celebrate the 330th anniversary of the Padovan violinist (1692-1770), searching the violins he would have played during his life, meeting both Tartini experts and visiting places where he lived and some relics are kept.

The three friends went visiting museums in Venice, Cremona,Trieste and Piran where they studied instruments in original state and gained many information amongst academics and musicians.

In April 2023 they met in Padova, along with bowmaker Jean-Yves Tanguy who jumped into the project for the bow aspect. During a week of intense work, they built a violin in honour of Tartini, in a set-up relevant to his time, while Jean-Yves made copies of the two bows kept in Trieste.

At the end of this journey, the friends gathered in the cloister of St Antonio of Padua for a final evening. They gave a talk about their research which was immediately followed by a concert played on those newly built instrument and bows, and featuring Tartini’s music at the same place he used to work for 40 years…
